Secember 19th, 2003 - Friday

Nice Friday

Since I am pretty wiped out by the time I start my entries after Hayley's (finally) asleep at night, I decided that maybe I should try doing them during the day. Hopefully there's still enough caffeine in my bloodstream to help that out.

I'm not looking forward to this afternoon. We're going to pick up the table set for Hayley's Christmas gift. At Walfart. On the Friday before Christmas. Oy vey would be an understatement. I'm just hoping that it won't be that bad since we're going before people get off of work, but that store seems to be crowded all the time. Even if we had the super stores that are open until midnight I bet there would still be crowds.

I hate shopping. One year I'm just going to do it all online.

Yesterday Hayley and I were in her room and she was playing with all her books. Since the rats are on top of her dresser, we usually keep the heat up quite warm because her room is always the coldest one otherwise. Since she was sitting close to the heater though, I turned it down a bit because it was getting stuffy. Then I forgot to put it back up.

When George got up this morning he went in with her because she always has to say good morning to the rats and it was really cold in there. I felt so badly for them because they were huddled together in a corner and shivering. They seem to be fine now but still! I brought them out to the living room and put them on the bookshelf. The living room is almost always warm because it's where Hayley spends most of her play time and it's hard to keep socks on her feet so the heat is usually up to a nice and comfortable level.

We've decided to only put them in her room when we go out somewhere because we don't want the cat to terrorize them. Otherwise we'll keep them in the living room. For one thing, then I don't have to worry about stupidly leaving them in a cold room by accident since it would be hard to ignore the fact that it's cold. For another, I think it may help their socialization a bit since they would see a lot more of us.

Hayley certainly enjoyed having them out where she could easily see them, that's for sure! We'll see how it goes.

Okay, so it's now HOURS later and we've gone out and come back.

We went to Walfart and although they had a lot of interesting things, they did not have the table set. I'm really disappointed. We'll check at Toys R Us but we'll probably end up getting her something else. It's not the end of the world, but it's too bad. On the other hand, it was only twenty dollars and that's regular price, not a sale price, so we can possibly get it for her after the holidays when they re-stock. We ended up getting rat food (at Walfart? Who would have guessed?) and a big pack of 52 diapers for twelve bucks so it wasn't a lost cause at least.

We went to Dino's too. Nancy was out at a Christmas party so he invited us over for supper. We hung out with the babies and had supper and just took it easy. At one point I had Rudi on one knee with a bottle and Hayley nursing while sitting on the other knee. It was interesting! Eventually, Hayley really needed to go to sleep so George brought us home and went back for awhile to work on something.

Rudi was getting tired and upset, but like Hayley, she's really getting heavy. They don't have a sling but I had brought mine so I asked Dino if I could put her in it. I got her in and we swayed around a bit and danced to some music and next thing I knew, she had conked out in it with her stuffed bunny in her hands and her pacifier in her mouth. I undid the sling and put her in her crib, rubbed her back and she went to sleep. It was really nice. Dino thanked me and I said it wasn't me at all - it's the magic sling.

Everyone needs a magic sling. I don't know what I would have done without mine.

Some pictures from tonight:

In imitation of George, I put her tights on her head. Hee!

And that's it. I have to get some sleep because we have to get up early for shopping tomorrow. Bah humbug. I love Christmas, hate the shopping.
