Success!

Today Hayley is 15 months old. So hard to believe.

In order to show me how much she loves me, she decided to share her cold with me. I am thrilled. Thank you Hayley!

In spite of that, we went out and did all our Christmas shopping. Yes, all. We did well with everyone else's gifts, keeping it very reasonable though we did probably go overboard with Hayley. It was harder this year in two respects. For one thing, it was harder to not buy everything in sight because she's older this year and therefore more able to play with things. For another, she's apparently at a difficult age. It seems a lot of the things on the shelves are either too young to hold her interest for more than a few more months or else they're for ages three and up with small choking hazard pieces. We managed to get most of the stuff for her approximate age group but some we just had to buy with the knowledge that we'd have to take a few pieces away from her until she's old enough to stop trying to eat them.

We never did find the table and food set but we found a set of play food that is 90% compatible with her age and can't be swallowed. It comes with a "knife" and chopping board and all the food slices in half. That will go nicely with her kitchen set that she got on her birthday. (As an aside, they had a kitchen set at Toys R Us for $329.00. I have no idea why a play kitchen would be so much money but at that price it had better come with a working fridge and stove and maybe some cooking lessons.) We also got her a little tunnel with Tigger on top and she can crawl through it, hide in it, etc. I loved it. I always wanted one of those giant crawl-through tunnels with an attached house but we just don't have room so this is a reasonable compromise. We also got her a farm set and a doll and wagon set. To top it off she has Christmas pajamas. We're going to start a tradition this year of gyving her pajamas on the 24th to open and wear to bed.

We got everyone else's stuff as well, which I won't list here because I have no idea who is still reading besides my sister.

The stores weren't too bad in spite of the proximity of the holiday. Even Toys R Us was nowhere near as crazy as I had expected it to be. I'd still prefer to not leave everything until such a last minute opportunity, but c'est la vie. The only thing I still need to get is a card for George.

We went to see Santa and for some reason there was no photographer. It appeared that there was no photographer at all either, not just that he or she was on break. It's okay though, because it's not the happiest picture of her in history. I just got George to take it with my own camera.

Digital Camera, circa 2001: $250

A photo opportunity she'll hate us for when she's older? Priceless.

AUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH!

I figure that once she's old enough to understand the concept that Santa brings presents she'll change her mind about him. In the meantime I'm trying hard to be sympathetic, but every time I look at that picture I laugh. Poor Hayley. Poor Santa!

I am so tired. My head feels stuffed with cotton. Whoopee. At least my shopping is done so if I get worse, the biggest thing I have to do is wrap stuff. I can deal with that.
