Christmas Crap

It is 10:30 at night and after TWO FUCKING HOURS Hayley is still up and refusing to sleep. Excuse me if I don't write a brilliant entry then, okay? Here's a mindless meme that has been floating around for a couple of years. If I can get her to go sleep after this I'll put some pictures at the end.

About the tree

1. When do you put up the Christmas tree?

I put the tree up in early December this year, but usually I don't get my act together until the week of Christmas itself.

2. Real or Fake?

I've never had a real tree in my life. I'd have to have someone explain to me how to take care of it so that I don't set the entire place on fire. I like the idea of a live tree but really, I'm happy with the ease of fake, thanks.

3. Lights? What color?

Multi-colored little bulbs. Next year I'd like all white for the tree and save the colors just for the windows.

4. Garland?

Icicles.

5. Theme or No theme?

Not unless random stuff is a theme.

6. What kind of topper?

An angel. It was homemade for me.

angels we have heard on high

7. What's your favorite ornament?

I like my Tigger ornament a lot.

8. What does your tree skirt look like?

We don't have one.

9. Where do you put your tree?

On top of the sub-woofer in the living room. It's only a four foot tree.

10. Who decorates the tree?

Usually I get George to help me but he's not really into it so I just did it myself this year, though Hayley helped by handing me decorations from the box.

11. What's "under" the tree?

Nothing yet.

12. Do you put candy canes on your tree?

I used to but I haven't gotten any this year. They'd have to be up high though, especially if Hayley noticed that they're edible.

About The Foods

1. What's your favorite Christmas cookie?

The almond cookies with raspberry jam that my mom makes. They're delicious and they're shaped like Christmas trees. She puts sprinkles in red and green on them too.

2. Do you bake cookies and give them away?

No.

3. Any "special" foods or candy that you only have at Christmas time?

The aforementioned cookies, candy canes, egg nog.

4. What do you eat on Christmas Eve?

Nothing in particular. Sometimes ham, sometimes roast beef.

5. What do you eat on Christmas day?

Turkey with all the sides.

6. Do you like Eggnog? Spiked or Not Spiked?

I love egg nog. I don't remember if I've ever had it spiked. I don't think so though. But I love the regular egg nog that you get in a carton at the store. I could drink it by the gallon.

7. Do you like candy canes?

I don't mind them.

About The Decorations

1. Where do you hang your stockings?

This year they're hanging from the baby gate that is protecting the tree.

2. Do you put lights on your house?

No. We don't have an outdoor plug on our balcony and it's way too cold to crack the window enough to plug them in inside.

3. Got any outside lawn decorations?

We don't have a lawn!

4. Do you put up a nativity?

I have a tiny one. Since the gate blocks the view of the bottom of the tree, I put it on the speaker this year.

5. Do you hang mistletoe under the door?

I used to but it kept falling off so I hang it on the calendar in the kitchen.

6. Got a wreath on your front door?

Yep, a nice Yule wreath.

7. How long does it take you to decorate?

A couple of days since I don't do it all at once.

About The Movies/Shows

1. Favorite Children's Xmas TV show/cartoon?

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, closely followed by The Grinch (original animated version).

2. Wonderful Life / Miracle on 34th Street / A Christmas Carol...Which is the best?

I'm ashamed to say I've only ever seen A Christmas Carol.

3. Favorite Christmas movie?

A Christmas Carol. I love it. "Ebeneeeeezer Scroooooge!"

4. Have you ever seen the Nutcracker Suite Ballet live?

Yes, and it was wonderful. I hope to take Hayley when she's older.

5. Ever been to the Radio City Music Hall Christmas show?

No.

6. Ever gone to the movies on Christmas Day?

Nope. I wouldn't really want to.

7. Did you know it's the biggest day of the box-office?

No I didn't.

Other Christmas Things....

1. Favorite Christmas book or story?

A Christmas Carol.

2. Do you stuff your stockings with any types of food?

We get chocolates of some sort usually, and sometimes gum. I'd like to start a tradition of an orange when Hayley is old enough to eat one and to care.

3. Do you go to church on Christmas or Christmas Eve?

I used to but I haven't gone in years.

4. Have you ever gone Caroling?

I never did but always wanted to. I sang in the choir with my grandmother one year at church though and that was fun!

5. Favorite Christmas Carol?

"Mary's Boy Child" tied with "O Holy Night".

6. Do you believe in Santa?

But of course!

7. Do you leave Santa cookies?

Yes.

8. What about Rudolph...leave him anything?

A bowl of water and sometimes some cereal.

9. What was your best Christmas gift?

Hayley. (She was conceived on Christmas night. Too much info? Me?)

10. What was the worst/most odd gift?

I can't think of any in particular. Just things that are clearly not "me" I guess.

11. Do you go to a "work" Christmas party?

Not in awhile.

12. Do you like/hate going to the "work" Christmas Party?

I used to like going.

13. Do you send Christmas cards (handmade or bought)?

Just to family.

14. Do you make a "list"?

I make a list of things I would like because it helps my family figure out what I want or need. I also get lists from them.

15. Do you check it twice?

Not really.

16. Have you been "naughty" or "nice"?

I try my best to be nice. Sometimes the horns knock my halo off center though.

17. Who's on your list this year?

My family, George's family, and of course Hayley.

18. When do you start shopping?

I was supposed to start already?!

19. Do you shop on Black Friday?

That's just an American thing. We don't have that here.

20. ARE YOU READY FOR CHRISTMAS?

No, not really.

And since Hayley FINALLY went to sleep at a little after 11 pm, I decided to add some pictures.

Hayley reads The Very Hungry Caterpillar to her rats.

sling
Hayley wanted to be carried around in the sling so I obliged her and we practiced having her sit facing outwards.

sling
I really need to use the sling more often since I do love it very much.

I need to unwind. With some water. And lots of chocolate.
