Cozy

I feel very cozy tonight. I don't really know why. Hayley was up to her late night/early morning antics, although at least she went back to sleep easily and quickly each time. Unfortunately I didn't get back to sleep so easily and she kept waking up soon afterwards. Sheesh. I will be so happy when these four stupid eye teeth come in!

Maybe part of the coziness started with the fact that she at least made up for it by sleeping in from 6 am until 9:30 am. That was nice. Too bad George had a guy coming over to record something because he arrived while I was still laying across the bed in my pajamas and bed head. I had to slam the door shut and quickly get dressed!

Whee!
Hayley didn't need to get dressed though. Showing her enthusiasm for having Cheerios and water in her chair while watching "Baby Beethoven".

Then Hayley had a really good day. She was in good spirits about 95% of the time, and we had fun playing together. She went down easily for her nap and since George's client had left already, he went in and laid down next to her. I ate my lunch in peace and when she woke up just before I finished, I didn't have to run in to rescue her since George was already there with her, so I got to finish eating in an organized manner.

She also ate all her meals happily without throwing half of it on the floor. She had Cheerios in milk for breakfast, toast and apples for lunch, cheese and crackers for a snack, and cheeseburger rice with veggies for supper. I know it's totally normal, but it amazes me to see how she doesn't want to bother with eating one day and then the next she'll eat like she did today.

After her nap, George dressed her up in her little snowsuit and took her out to pick up cheese for supper and to see his mom. I don't know if this snowsuit will make it through the whole winter because she is just so damn tall, but my mom picked it up for five measly bucks at a garage sale, so that's okay. In the meantime, she looks awfully cute in it and she doesn't mind it as much as the one she had to wear last year.

oh the weather outside is frightful
All bundled up for an outing.

That meant I got to go down to the basement where the storage lockers are and I brought up our Christmas tree. It's only the 4th of the month and our tree is up with the lights on it! That's pretty unheard of for me. I haven't decorated it yet - I'll do that tomorrow with George, even though he really doesn't care one way or the other. Maybe I'll make some hot chocolate for all three of us (though Hayley's will be very weak!). Hayley thinks the tree and the lights are pretty cool. I stretched the baby gate across the front and it worked. So far, at least!

After that, I got supper started. I know it sounds incredibly cheesy, but I really do like to cook. I enjoy making the kitchen smell good and adding spices to everything and just the whole process. Having George home today helped because it meant I didn't have to worry about what Hayley was doing.

He left after supper to go hang out with Dino so I talked to my sister for a bit while Hayley played with her kitchen, then I did the dishes while she played at my feet. At the same time, we blasted Chaka Khan and I belted out the words and Hayley danced.

Hayley had a bath after that and I decided I just couldn't take her hair any more. It's beautiful and curly but the longer pieces that she was born with are straight, and it was all very scraggly looking. No matter what I did, she always looked dishevelled unless I put it all up in a ponytail but sometimes she just won't tolerate that so I had to do something.

In the bath I used a comb to wet the hair well and then I parted it the way I wanted it to fall. Then I took her out, dried her off, and sat her on the bed. I managed to convince her to look at the television so that she was distracted long enough for me to lop off all the stray ends. I cut her bangs while I was at it, and then I blow dried the whole thing. I have to check tomorrow to be completely sure that it's even since she was too tired to sit still any longer but I'm amazed with myself. I've never cut anyone's hair before (except Barbie dolls with disastrous results) and my attempts to trim my own bangs often ended in tears and exclamations of "WHY did I DO that?! Again?!" On top of that, I don't have any experience with curly hair since my own is stick straight.

However, I think I did an awesome job with it.

No flash + bouncy child = blurry picture but I think you can see it pretty well.

hair cut
Slightly less blurry.

Not bad eh?

That's it. Now I'm in my pajamas, drinking the leftover beer from last night, eating chips, and enjoying the soothing sounds of the ocean CD that I play for Hayley when she's sleeping. It's coming through the monitor right now and it's very relaxing.

I think I'll do some browsing, then later I'll curl up with my tea, my book, and read a bit before bed. Have a good one!
