NAOT Trovador Sandals
July 30th, 2011For the summer months - fleeting though they are in this country - NAOT was kind enough to send me their Trovador sandals and it was pretty much love at first sight when I opened the box. It took awhile before it was actually warm enough for me to venture out in sandals but my patience paid off when I finally got to take them for a test drive. Er, test walk.

Style-wise, the Trovadors are what I consider a wearable version of the whole Gladiator trend. While some people seem to be able to really pull off the Gladiator look where the shoes come way up past the ankle, it’s just not something that works for me. Maybe I’m too short, making it a little much or maybe I just don’t have the style attitude to be successful with the attempt. My style is a bit more understated and shy. My version of being wild with footwear means putting on red shoes.
However, the Trovadors are perfect. They borrow from the Gladiator look in their style but they stop at the ankle bone making them a shoe I can wear without feeling ridiculous. The color is also fabulous, being a dark grey with a hint of metallic. The fact that they’re a shade of grey means they go with almost any outfit (actually, I haven’t found a single outfit yet that doesn’t work with them) and the metallic undertones make them stand out.
As far as wearing them out is concerned, not only does the color make it so that they go with anything, the actual style is flexible enough to go with a variety of clothing. I can wear then with jeans and a t-shirt to be casual, but I can just as easily pair them with a dress or skirt and dress them up. Double-duty footwear is always a good thing. They’re even dressy enough to be worn to my summer casual office.
When it comes to the comfort levels I almost feel like I don’t need to say it because this is true of all three pairs of NAOT shoes that I now own (these and these). As always this is footwear that looks like shoes but feels like slippers. I don’t know about you but I’m at a point in my life where I no longer tolerate the concept of suffering for fashion. I wore a pair of thrifted shoes to the office and while they looked cute they hurt my toes by the end of the day and as a result I will never wear them without socks ever again (meaning they’re out of the question with skirts of course). I refuse to do that which is why I appreciate the fact that NAOT is continually committed to making shoes and boots that look fantastic and sassy while being so comfortable that you can wear them all day without pain.
And speaking of wearability, while they’re clearly meant for walking along the street or other tame walking ventures, I have indeed been wearing them when I’ve ended up going somewhere unexpected. I once ended up at the beach with them and walked through sand and along gravel paths. While visiting a lake we unexpectedly wound up hiking along a wooded - and very uneven path - to get to a more private area of the water. And most hilarious of all, I found myself wearing them to a friend’s house only to find myself helping to shovel up the rocky backyard to install a fence. In all of these situations, sandals were really not appropriate footwear and they aren’t what I would have chosen had I known what lay in store for my feet. However, despite that, my Trovadors handled the varying terrain AND, most importantly, held up just fine. Not a single scratch or loose thread anywhere. Clearly they are made to last, even if you make them walk somewhere they shouldn’t really be.
There’s still plenty of summer left, so if you’re looking for a good pair of sandals I’d recommend the NAOT Trovador sandals to anyone!

When I was recently asked to review a copy of Wii Birthday Bash I immediately said yes. We’re big fans of the Wii but we only have a handful of games so I was eager to try something new.
The labels come in a variety of colors; I chose to test drive the Mixed Berry which included shades of pink, purple, and red. Not only do you get to specify your child’s name on the labels, you can also choose an icon to go on them with choices ranging from a maple leaf to a teddy bear to a soccer ball and much more. I asked my daughter to take a look and choose the one she wanted and she immediately picked the cute dinosaur.
I was approached recently with an offer to sample Colgate’s new toothpaste, Colgate Max White, which promises to help brighten your smile quickly and affordably. As much as I would like to deny it, I don’t exactly have the best teeth in the world and my smile certainly wouldn’t blind anyone. The thing is, the cost of a professional whitening is miles out of my budget. Even the little home kits are fairly pricey.
No matter how clean my girls are at the beginning of the day, it never fails that Hayley will come home with some juice on her tunic and Breanna will spill something on her shirt.
It’s kind of ironic that I find myself reviewing the book Sleep is for the Weak on a day that I can barely keep my eyes open. I’m not weak, dammit! I don’t need no stinkin’ sleep!
