Just holiday stuff

I can't believe it's Christmas in just two more days. It seems like not that long ago that we were celebrating Hayley's very first Christmas and yet here we are again.

Everything will be so different next year. Next year she'll be over two years old and will have a bigger understanding of the day. This year her gifts from us and Santa are in her room, sitting in their boxes and bags. She goes in and looks at them. Surprisingly she has only poked lightly at them once in awhile and has never thrown a fit at not being able to play with them but she definitely likes to look at them. Next year we'll have to hide things in the cupboards or at George's parents' house and we won't be able to bring her shopping with us. We definitely won't be able to have her see one gift two days ahead of time only to find that it's signed from Santa when she opens it.

It's strange how time flies like this.

This year, for the first time ever, I celebrated Yule. It wasn't a very big festivity or anything, it was quiet and small since I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted to do but it was nice anyway. I lit two white candles and one yellow candle as well to represent the sun, we ate a meat pie with mashed potatoes for supper, and we ate a log ice cream cake for dessert since we can't exactly burn a traditional Yule log. Next year I'll think a little further ahead and make a meal that is a little more Yule appropriate, like using winter squash and so on.

Still, it was really nice.

Yesterday we went to get Hayley a few things for her Christmas stocking. We didn't do one for her last year since there was a limit to how many things you can buy for a three month old. This year though, there were a lot more options. We went to a dollar store so it didn't cost much and we got her some stuffed animals, a toy microphone and guitar, a book in French, and a few other doodads. I can't wait to put the stocking together.

Anyway I had planned to write more but her highness woke up after a refreshing half hour of sleep and refuses to go back to bed even though she was so bloody exhausted that she couldn't keep her eyes open when I was putting her pajamas on so that's the end of this AND the end of my quiet evening. Fantastic.
