Peace and Quiet

I forget if I mentioned this or not. Recently Hayley has graduated to being a big girl by no longer saying "Dada". She now says "Daddy" and she says it over and over again. It's definitely not just a word either, she knows what it means because she says it whenever she sees George or right before going off to find him if he's in another room.

It's so cute. She says "Mama" too (no Mommy yet) but only if I ask her to. I'm second fiddle now. Then again, if I leave the room, she'll shout "Ay-yo? Ay-yo!" (hello) to find out where I am. She's so interactive these days.

She's not here right now. George took Hayley to see his parents. I'm glad. I love her more than anything but the sleep deprivation is taking a serious toll on me and I was getting pretty stressed and frustrated. It started last night with her lack of desire to sleep keeping her up until almost 11 pm. She didn't wake up for a two hour marathon in the middle of the night at least, but she did wake up crying and wailing around 3:30 am and it took some effort to get her back to sleep again. Also, I've noticed that because I'm always worried that I'm going to be up in the middle of the night, I tend to have trouble falling asleep right away so I laid there when I first went to bed and then after her 3:30 wake-up I laid there again. It's ridiculous. Then she was up at 7:15 for the day. Gah!

At least she took a decent nap. George was going to take her over around 12:30 but she had been up for over five hours by then and was clearly tired. She fell asleep withing five minutes and slept for an hour and forty minutes. Yay! Then she had a late lunch with him and they've been gone for awhile now. Over an hour, at least.

I usually do miss her while she's gone but frankly I needed this. I'd love to sleep but I know the dangers of mid-day naps for me, so I had a coffee instead, listened to some music, and now I'm enjoying some peace and quiet. Halleluiah.

Last night I made a Faux Moussaka (though I prefer to call it Bastardized Moussaka because it's more fun). I got the recipe from a reader years ago and never got around to making it. It was so amazingly delicious that I was sorely disappointed that it was all gone. Tyler was visiting yesterday so he helped us eat it, but I honestly think I would have finished it anyway even if it had only been us. Even Hayley enjoyed it.

That's a definite keeper of a recipe. I can't wait to eat it again. Also, as cheesy as this may sound, it was really fun and nice to chop and prepare so many things. The entire meal was made from scratch - no processed or packaged foods. Now that's a great thing!

The rats are crazy. I took the cage into the bathroom so that I could clear out the wood chips and replace them with fresh ones. I decided to leave the clean tray and their food dish in the tub, along with some empty toilet paper rolls and even a shallow dish with frozen peas and corn and water. I closed the door so the cat can't get in (what a disaster that would be!) and figured that it would be good for them to get some exercise. Ha! I don't think they've moved more than a few inches in the past hour because they don't know where the hell they are.

Hopefully they'll move around a bit soon because it's kind of silly to have them in there for nothing.

Then they came home and Hayley was ecstatic to discover the rats in the tub.

Mama! RATS!
"Mama! There are rats in our bathtub!"

Of course, they immediately went into hiding. Oh well.
